Swinton Village is 7 miles north-east of Coldstream, a lovely village with a tidy green, a good hotel - the Wheatsheaf - a popular Primary School and a very old kirk with a kirk bell that is said to have been rung after the Battle of Flodden in 1513, The bell has two names - Mary and the Flodden Bell - and around it are the words 'Maria est nomem meum, 1499' (Mary is my name, 1499).. Swinton village is worth a visit. Also a lot of the church headstones are transcribed into the Coldstream and District Local History Society website.
