The winter system for quotes is now open and a request for a quote can be registered on the energy switch button on the front page of this website. The process is explained on the front page too. Look for 'Energy Switch'. Households that have switched with our community energy switch must remember that they are on annual contract and therefore a fresh quote is required annually.

Our kindred community body - Coldstream's Heritage Ltd - that saved the medieval Lennel Kirk has asked if we can post this message. "Our community interest body is hosting a coffee morning in the British Legion on Saturday 6th January at 10:30 am. We need funds to pay for insurance and the general upkeep of the conserved Lennel Kirk and we have high hopes to improve the grass-cutting at the old kirkyard. We are also in the process of submitting a planning application to install a visitor information board at the grassed area at the Braeheads, covering all sorts of local attractions, not just Lennel Kirk. We need help with raffle prizes and tasks and anyone willing to help please get in touch with Will Murray, Trevor Swan or Gerald Tait. Thanks"

The Big Community Energy Switch arrangement with another Trust and around 45 UK Councils is working well here in Castrum. BUT, BUT, BUT......households, please remember you are enjoying an annual contract with your current energy supplier and like house and car insurance you need to register for another quote each year. Otherwise your energy supplier will put you on an expensive standard tariff.

Saturday's Christmas Concert has sadly had to be cancelled due to lack of ticket sales. Apologies to the cast and to people who have bought tickets. If you produce your tickets, refunds can be obtained from the newsagents or community centre.

Congratulations to Honour our Troops - HOT - for the poppy presentations all over the town. Brilliant and very respectful of the fallen. HOT, supported by the community trust, is with Council approval and help going to make other improvements in the war memorial garden in 2018 on top of the regular grass-cutting viz:- - wooden seating round three tree trunks - two street lamps to create much-needed lighting. They will be electric-powered but with the appearance of Victorian gas lights - two garden seats on the tarmac areas - trimmed cherry trees - some more flower arrangements without creating a time-consuming garden. Everybody involved is hoping the community welcomes these improvements.

Households should be getting energy offers through the post or on the e-mail. Look at them carefully and make sure the correct details of your current contract are listed, to make a decent comparison. Also, other energy schemes on the website, be careful that they are including VAT. The Community Energy Switch always includes VAT whereas others don't. Need any help, 'phone 01890-882685.

Coldstream, and elsewhere, households will be receiving their Community Energy Switch offers, either in the post or over the email. It's useful to compare the offers with other websites but please take into account VAT.....the community energy switch offers clearly include VAT so make sure any other offers add VAT. The other dynamic to consider is that if you switch with us you direct a 'cut' (fee) for our community centre of £11 for a dual fuel switch and £5.50 for gas or electric.

The community trust and volunteers are in the middle of a 20 action project to confirm evidence of the impact heavy lorries are having on our High Street, especially the 44t ones from far afield. There is a reality that local lorries are important to the economy and they aren't the problem. By December, the project will produce a comprehensive report on EVIDENCE, which will then be passed to the community council, SBC and Police Scotland for possible SOLUTIONS.
